London City Airport’s Work Experience Scheme runs 48 weeks a year. The week-long placements are offered to students aged over sixteen years old studying a travel industry related course.
The Work Experience programme forms part of the Airport’s Section 106 Agreement with the London Borough of Newham. The Airport’s legal agreement with the council requires it to provide ‘one week Work Experience for a minimum of 40 residents of the London Borough of Newham and a minimum total of eight residents of the London Boroughs of Bexley, Barking and Dagenham, Greenwich and Tower Hamlets’. As such, it is necessary that we only offer placements to students within these five boroughs, and preference will be given to those students that show a real interest in the travel industry. Students must also be able to provide photographic identification (Passport, provisional/full driving license) in order to commence their placement.
During the week students gain an insight into all aspects of the Airport’s business, working in a variety of departments including Airfield Operations, Business Development, Customer Service and Corporate Aviation.
