London City Airport Wows the East End

Date: 05/07/2010

This past Saturday London City Airport transformed Thames Barrier Park in Silvertown into a fun filled family festival with over 20,000 visitors attending the park during the airport’s annual Fun Day.

This year’s Fun Day was designed specifically for kids and hosted a range of thrilling attractions.  The event opened with Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive London City Airport, leading a procession of visitors into the park dancing to the rhythm of the African Adanta drummers. Children experienced the ride of their life on the popular Jet Plane ride while also enjoying bouncy castles, face painting and henna artists.

The interactive zone saw inspiring football players receive coaching tips from West Ham United experts while Andy Gomarsall MBE, the rugby World Cup winner and premiership player, provided rugby skills sessions to youngsters of all ages.

Aspiring pilots enjoyed a thrilling ride on the British Airways and AstroJet flight simulators.

Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive London City Airport said: "The airport is delighted with the number of families from all over East London who attended Fun Day which is now one of Newham’s favorite annual events.  With the glorious weather the crowds thoroughly enjoyed the exciting activities. We would like to give a special thanks to the London Development Agency for granting us permission to use this spectacular park. We look forward to seeing you all at next year's event".

Fun Day, hosted by the airport raises money for Richard House Children's Hospice. Everything raised on the day is donated to the Hospice which provides care and respite to children with life-limiting conditions.

Please make a note in your diary for next year's Fun Day which will take place on Saturday 2 July 2011.
